Women in the construction industry
Women in the construction industry
The construction industry is urging women to join the sector.
Nowadays, more and more women are taking on roles traditionally reserved for men: engineers, bus drivers, security guards, military personnel, etc. In the construction industry, however, women account for only 10% of the total workforce, and if we focus on construction sites, they make up less than 1%.
Aware of the talent it is missing out on, the construction industry is urging women to join the sector.
Many women can find professional opportunities in the construction industry, not to mention prospects and working conditions that are far superior to those in other fields that society has traditionally assigned to them and that require more physical and psychological strength.
As a result of the implementation of occupational risk prevention, working conditions, equipment, etc. are evolving to enable men and women to carry out their work without damaging their health.
The General Agreement recently signed by the social partners includes not only measures to promote non-discrimination in companies, but also, as a principle of action, the promotion of a balanced presence of women in all spheres of business.
The social partners are equally aware of the need to promote cooperation with organisations and training schools in order to include female students in their training programmes
